I was the College President of the Johnson C. Smith University College Chapter of the NAACP (1964-1967). We did Voter Registration, Voter Education and Voter Canvassing and GOTV in Charlotte, NC targeted areas. In 1965 as the Voting Rights Act was being debated I worked in the SCOPE Project in Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina. I was the Student Leader for eleven (11) students from Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC. My Team worked the Summer of 1965 in Eastern North Carolina. We did Community Organizing, Mobilization and Voter Education.
I am presently the 3rd Vice President of the SC NAACP State Conference in Columbia, SC. I was the President of the Camden-Kershaw County Branch NAACP, Camden, SC from 1986 to December 31, 2014. I am the Regional Coordinator of S.C. Region Six (six NAACP Adult Branches, four Youth Councils and four College Chapters). I serve as Recorder of the SC State NAACP Labor & Industry Committee and I chair the L&I Committee of Camden-Kershaw County Branch NAACP. I am a Diamond Life member of the NAACP. I also hold Silver Life and Golden Heritage Life Memberships. I have been a member of the NAACP for fifty- three(53) years. I have been responsible for Direct Actions, Lawsuits and Court Cases being filed, which we won.
