I and the three other members of the team worked in Allendale, South Carolina, doing voter registration for SCLC-SCOPE. During the summer of 1965, we met with community leaders, organized potential voters, and provided training and transportation for voters attempting to register.
Meeting governmental opposition and foot-dragging to our attempts to help voters register, we staged a sit-in at the county courthouse, resulting in several arrests, including us. We believe that the publicity caused by this action was helpful in producing the eventual passage of the Voting Rights Bill of 1965.
