How We Fought for a Martin Luther King Texas Holiday
I was the coordinator of the last SNCC chapter in the United States. The San Antonio SNCC chapter was a hybrid organization as it was part Black Panther Party and SNCC. This made the members of the chapter SNCC- Panthers, The members wore SNCC blue Jean denim and Black Panther Berets. The organization had survival programs and followed the Black Panther 10 point program. Survival programs included: Free Breakfast Program, Free Legal Aid, Sickle Cell Screaning, Survellience of the Police Patrol, a Black Student Union organizing committee, and several other programs designed after the Black Panther model. This made the San Antonio SNCC chapter one of the most unique in the country.
