I worked in the Freedom Summer Project in Panola County, led by the late Robert Miles. We focused on registration of rural blacks in a county where prior abuses had been so extreme that a successful Federal lawsuit resulted in an injunction against the Registrar from using the usual voter literacy test. As I recall, more people registered in Panola than any other county in the state that year. Another volunteer, Geoff Cowen, and I lived with the Thomas family on a farm they owned outside of town.
I am now a lawyer in Cambridge, MA.
